There are so many things to love about the summertime! Some of my all time favs are: water (of course!), swings, lazy nights, peaches, daisy dukes, sandals, and sweet iced tea -- ahhh! Is it bizarre that I find it delightfully refreshing to step out of a large, air conditioned facility into the terribly humid Florida heat?! Probably so... I guess I'm unique in that way.

Summer, you are welcome here!

Real Alabama Wedding: Lindsey + Scotty, Part II

Beautiful bride, stunning dress, perfect sunny day over an Alabama plantation… what more could you ask for in a Southern wedding?  (Hint: not much!)  Planner Amy Townson of Distinctive Designs created the ultra-feminine bouquets + airy centerpieces, while Tammy Griffin of A Catered Affair treated guests to good, old-fashioned Southern cooking.  Visit Kim Box Photography’s blog post for more eye candy from today’s Alabama wedding!

Describe your wedding flowers: My florist has the most wonderful taste and fulfilled my vision completely. I didn’t want the flowers to look too “fixed” or over the top. I wanted to keep with the feeling of a back yard dinner party, like the flowers had been cut fresh from the garden. She chose the most beautiful assortment, all in shades of cream and blush. My favorites were the open cut garden roses and fresh lavender. They were the most romantic flowers I’ve ever laid eyes on and I wish I could be surrounded by them every day.
Describe your wedding cake:
To be honest the cake was kind of an afterthought, but ended up being one of my favorite parts of the wedding! The good people at Cake Designs in Montgomery put together a very simple, yet delicious, ivory cake for us. There were three different flavors in the cake: almond, strawberry, and Italian cream cheese. Amy accented the cake with a cascade of mixed succulents – so simple and yet so gorgeous!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day?
Scotty and I wanted to take all of our pictures before the ceremony so we arranged a special moment outside where he saw me for the first time. The feeling we shared was the best feeling I’ve ever had. The love and happiness was tangible and the photos capture it perfectly. I gave Scotty a four leaf clover in honor of the first thing he ever gave me: a sweet little four leaf clover left in my car.
Did you write your own vows?  If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line?
We chose an old Irish wedding vow that perfectly expressed the way we feel about each other and the way we view our future together. My favorite phrase is this one: “As light to the eye, as bread to the hungry, as joy to the heart, may thy presence be with me [forever].

Winner : Corey Klein Fitness

June 21, 2010 by Katharine in Contests | 0 comments

The time has come to announce the winner of last week’s giveaway! The prize? One lucky bride will get free personalized fitness training sessions with Corey Klein, a wonderful personal trainer out of Memphis, Tennessee just in time to tone up for her big day!

Workouts will be conducted via web-cam and through prerecorded workouts. In addition, the winner will receive nutrition advice to help meet her goals and yoga videos to help de-stress during the undoubtedly busy wedding planning season.

Congratulations to Krista! Her story is a familiar one (those sweets get me, too!) and we are so glad to offer her help as she prepares for her November wedding!

________________________________________________________________________________________

Oh let me tell you how and why I could benefit from a trainer….I need someone to stay on my back!  I’ve tried Weight Watchers, I’ve tried couch potato to 5k, I’ve tried P90 and they all work.  But only if you keep wi

th it!   I’ll workout and eat clean for a week and then someone has a party, or someone brings in sweets to the office.  I know all in moderation, but that one bite sends me over the edge! I could really use the help and advice of personal trainer Corey Klein.  I have been a bridesmaid 10 times and every time the wedding is getting close I swear Ill work out to look good in that bridesmaid dress.  Well this time it’s THE dress!  My wedding date is November 13th. I will be wearing a gorgeous, strapless, ivory, Watters gown at a rustic outdoor wedding.  As happy as I will be that day, my smile might be a bit brighter if my arms were toned in that gown!

________________________________________________________________________________________

(P.S. Isn’t she adorable?)

Come back tomorrow for another great giveaway!

Engage10! Wedding Conference + Two Bright Lights Survey

June 21, 2010 by Southern Weddings in Main | 0 comments

10 days ago, our Editor-in-Chief, Lara Casey, jetted off to Grand Cayman for the premier wedding conference, Engage!10.  (It’s kind of a big deal, and she was just a teensy bit excited, as you might imagine.)  She came back with a tan, a plethora of great pics, plus a ground-breaking survey from Two Bright Lights.  (For a full recap of her week in paradise, check out Lara’s mega-post here!)

An online image-sharing and networking service, Two Bright Lights is on the cutting edge of social networking and is committed to revolutionizing how wedding professionals showcase their work and promote their business.  Pretty nifty, eh?  Earlier this year, Two Bright Lights conducted a comprehensive survey of 700 wedding professionals from across the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.  In addition to exploring the in’s and out’s of the luxury wedding industry, theirs is the first survey that’s been able to quantify the exact revenue benefits of marketing activities.  Yeah, we were pretty impressed, too – not to mention chomping at the bit for the results!

If you’re a Planner or Designer: your best sources are past client referrals, Google searches, endorsements from wedding venues and other vendors, and paid online listings.  Not too terribly surprising, right?  Next in line are referrals from another planner, Real Wedding publications and print ads.  Yes, folks, even in this crazy magazing climate, print ads still go a very, very long way in boosting your revenue.

If you’re a Photographer: your single biggest source of revenue is those invaluable client referrals.  Next in line are Real Wedding publications, referrals from other photographers and favorite venues, and print ads!  Yes, you read that right!

What’s the takeaway from your friends at Two Bright LightsMarket smarter, not harder.  “Remember that time is limited, and money tight.  Pick the marketing activities that give you the biggest bang for your buck.”

Want to chat about the survey findings and geek-out over the cool results?  Interested in taking the plunge into the world of advertising, and want to see a copy of our new media kit?  Email me!

Signing off,
Katharine

Real Alabama Wedding: Lindsey + Scotty, Part I

Most wedding dresses are strapless – mine included – and while we love strapless gowns, sometimes we miss the wedding gowns of yore.  So it’s no wonder that we all fawned over Lindsey’s vintage-inspired Claire Pettibone dress.  The slim, column fit, the intricate lace detailing and the cap sleeves are wonderfully romantic and, best of all, totally unique in today’s strapless dress craze.  Lindsey + Scotty were married at The Oaks Plantation.  Amy Townson of Distinctive Designs planned the Alabama wedding, and Kim Box Photography documented all the happy moments.  (How blissful and serene does that bride look?)  We’ll see you back here for the reception pics!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story. Scotty and I met in Alabama while I was a student at Auburn University. He was the Sous Chef at The Yellow Hammer Restaurant in Waverly, AL. We were introduced through mutual friends and were instantly attracted to each other. The next few months were spent getting to know each other and having the most fun of our lives. It didn’t take long for me to realize he was the most interesting, down to earth creature I had ever met. Not to mention an incredibly romantic man.
Describe the proposal.
Scotty popped the question on a normal Saturday— Scotty working in his garden while I pretended to help. He casually told me to check the mail and I found something very odd in there. There was an envelope that held a simple white card. On the front was the name and address of a local spa and the word “Massage”. The back of the card had a phrase written in Chinese, which of course confused me completely. I thought it was an April Fools’ joke! He finally told me that because it had been such a stressful few weeks he had planned a massage for me. After the massage the masseuse handed me another white card with the word “Facial” on the front and another message on the back (again written in a language I didn’t recognize).  The same thing happened at the next stop and the next until I had been given the full treatment and a handful of cards. When I got home the house was immaculate and smelled of my favorite foods. He poured me a glass of our favorite wine and led me outside to our beautiful back yard (which he had staged with tons of candles and flowers). He asked me to be “his girl” forever and of course I said yes! Turns out he had been asking me to marry him all day through the mysterious messages on the cards! I framed all the cards together and gave it to him the night before our wedding.
Three adjectives that describe the day are:
Romantic, eclectic and relaxed.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
It’s so hard to choose one, but the thing we were most proud of was the hundreds of vintage glasses we collected during our engagement which were used as wine glasses for the guests. At the end of the night they were able to take their glass home as a gift from us! And I have to mention the gorgeous Moroccan lanterns hanging from the enormous oak tree. It was magical!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
I found my wonderful Claire Pettibone gown at Kelly’s Closet in Atlanta. I had been to several other places, but never got the warm fuzzy feeling I had when I put on this one. It fit me just right and was the most comfortable dress I’ve ever worn! Really, I could wear it every day. I was comfortable and confident and felt like the most beautiful girl in the world.

OMG this Georgia peach is absolutely STUNNING! Don't get me wrong, the groom is handsome too, but she is a showstopper. I want to see more from this wedding, I'm already obsessing over the few details I can see - namely the tree lanterns, the bouquet and that dress! All around GORGEOUSNESS.

I really love all the detail on her dress. CHeck out the picture of Lindsey bouquet. All those lovely details are visible on her dress.
