Giveaway :: Brandy Pham Jewelry

March 31, 2011 by Whitney in Contests,Main | 79 comments

We are having an unfortunate burst of cold weather in North Carolina, and it seems like winter has decided to revisit us once again. I’ve pulled my pea coat back out of the closet and I’m consuming hot coffee 24/7 to stay warm (side effect: I’m also slightly jittery, and super productive). One other thing is making me feeling all warm inside, and that is the gorgeous jewelry of Brandy Pham. Take one look at her jewelry and accessories collection and you, too, will be feeling nice and toasty!

Brandy’s jewelry has just the right amount of femininity, and I would honestly be happy to add every single item to my jewelry collection. Her necklaces are the type that you could pair with comfortable jeans or a drop-dead ball gown. The Amy Pearl Necklace would be a gorgeous addition to that outfit you already have planned for the bridal shower, and couldn’t you just see the Haley stud earrings being the perfect complement to your dream wedding gown?

To Enter: Brandy Pham’s collection is dominated by black and white pieces. Leave a comment below telling us your wedding colors for a chance to win!

Win: A pair of the Haley stud earrings paired with EITHER the All That Shimmers Silver Bangles OR the Amy Pearl Necklace (your choice!).

You have until Tuesday, April 5th at midnight to enter for your chance to win some gorgeous jewelry. I’d enter sooner rather than later if I were you!

Monthly Round-Up :: March 2011

March 31, 2011 by Emily in Main | 5 comments

This first month of spring brought some delightfully fresh real weddings, and we’ve got the fever to share them with you! March’s guest editor is another of our fabulous interns, Nicole.

FAVORITE WEDDING DRESS: Nicole fell in love with Stephanie’s Priscilla of Boston gown, while I loved Lindsay’s, also from POB! (Bonus: they both have straps!) Katharine loved Dana’s Rosa Clara.

FAVORITE BRIDESMAID DRESS: Katharine and Nicole agreed that Dana’s ‘maids, in their mix-and-match black dresses, were the peak of chic. I, on the other hand, voted for Kate’s bright bridesmaid mix!

FAVORITE FEMALE ACCESSORY: Pink ruffly shoes! I couldn’t help but choose them. Nicole opted for Lindsay’s handkerchief, while Katharine fell for Lindsay’s pretty blue cardigan.

FAVORITE MENSWEAR: Nicole and I were the ones agreeing this time around — we both concurred that Avery’s sharp tux was the menswear winner this month. Katharine loved JoJo and his black and white seersucker mini mes!

FAVORITE DETAIL: Stephanie and Avery’s delicate gardenia arrangement was my favorite (and oh-so-Southern!) detail this month. Nicole loved Kate + JoJo’s flowered bar menu, while Katharine wanted to boogie on Lindsay + Jonathan’s poolside dance floor.

FAVORITE BOUQUET: Gorgeous blooms are certainly NOT in short supply on the SW blog. Nicole and I went completely ga-ga for Engle’s bouquet, designed by Kim Fisher, while Katharine was all over Dana’s white blooms, courtesy of Dottie B.

FAVORITE SWEET: Katharine and I both agreed that Stephanie + Avery’s seaside black and white cake looked delightful (and delicious!). Nicole opted for Dana + Danny’s fruit-bedecked tiers.

FAVORITE PHOTO: In the end, we love the couple shots, it seems! From top to bottom, Katharine chose Melissa Schollaert’s, Nicole chose Joel Flory’s, and I chose Kristin Byrum’s.

FAVORITE WEDDING OVERALL: Katharine and Nicole both chose Stephanie + Avery’s classic, intimate wedding (here + here), while I went with Engle + Brian’s preppy seaside celebration (here + here).

How about you? Which was your favorite wedding? What do you think of our picks?

Southern Spotting :: Tulip Boutonniere

March 31, 2011 by Emily in Inspirations,Main,Personal | 2 comments

Since we had the most lovely spring weather last week, I thought these ingenious tulip boutonnieres would be the perfect Southern Spotting for today!

So simple and fresh, yet I’ve never seen this idea done before! A tulip boutonniere — would you try it?

See more from this spring wedding, photographed by Courtney Reese, here and here.

Details: Lindsay + Jonathan, Part II

Is there anything more magical than an open-air wedding reception? After seeing Lindsay + Jonathan’s celebration at a family friend’s private estate, I think not! The new Mr. + Mrs. toasted their nuptials with a garden reception catered by Events, Etc., followed by poolside dancing and revelry to the tunes of Jazz Mafia’s Supertaster. Flory Photo’s crisp shots of the evening fun make us feel like we were actually there for L + J’s California bash. (We totally wish we had been, by the way!) Anyone else notice how the bride’s adorable blue cardigan perfectly matched the lush hydrangea centerpieces? Major swoon!

Details: Lindsay + Jonathan, Part I

When I think about a Southern wedding, I imagine an intimate backyard affair attended by the bride + groom’s closet family and friends. Add lush blue hydrangeas designed by Events, Etc., a traditional portrait collar gown from Priscilla of Boston and wheat fields ripe for picture-taking, and you have Lindsay + Jonathan’s celebration. The catch? The newlyweds (who initially met on match.com!) were married all the way out on the west coast – proof that the Southern sentiment and famed hospitality transcend geography. California-based Flory Photo documented L + J’s wedding at a family friend’s private estate, and Events, Etc. planned the West Coast celebration.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met on Match.com. I had just moved to San Francisco and was looking to meet some new people and get a few drinks out of it along the way. My plan was spoiled when I met up with Jonathan for a beer at the Plough and Stars on Clement Street. Both conversation and beer flowed longer than planned that night. There was something there and we’re still enjoying it today.
Describe the proposal. (From the groom) I’m not able to surprise Lindsay too often – she’s much brighter than me! My first thought was to plan a backpacking trip to the Trinity Alps, but a solo couple trip could tip her off to the real motivation. As a distraction, I invited some friends, but, big surprise, they couldn’t make it. So it was off to the woods by ourselves, with a surprise in the making. Our destination was Lake Anna, an alpine lake perched a vertical mile above the trail head. It was slow going as the trail disappeared and we threaded our way through thick Manzanita. Daylight began to wane and we hadn’t reached the little alpine lake yet. In fact we sat at the base of a 300 foot scree field unsure of the exact location of the lake. At this point, the last thing on Lindsay’s mind was marriage. We scurried up the last few hundred feet of scree with the sun cresting the horizon. When we reached the top, I pulled out a Nepalese ring and kneeled (partly from exhaustion). Lindsay’s initial reaction was confusion which was overcome by joy. Success.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The weekend with family and friends was amazing. There were so many details that made our day special including the personal touch of our wedding at a family home, our friends playing the ceremony music, and Jazz Mafia’s improvisation of a New Orleans street band when the power went out. But the best detail was being immersed in the love of our friends and family.
