Today’s the Day! V4 Has Released + HUGE Photo Contest!

October 25, 2011 by Emily in Main,News | 7 comments

It’s that time again, ladies and gents! The cat’s out of the bag about our cover and shiny copies of V4 are popping up on newsstands everywhere, so dust off your camera or iPhone and get ready to snap a shot of you and your brand new SW!

In a box, with a fox, in a house, with a mouse, here or there, or anywhere… the location is up to you! Perhaps you and your SW would like to travel to a cotton plantation? To the top of the Empire State building? To the beach in Miami? The peak of a mountain in Maine? To a BBQ joint in Texas? Or maybe your SW wants to be photographed with someone fun — your Momma, your baby, your pug, your best friends, your bridal party?

Whatever you choose, we want it to be creative! Entries are due November 25, one month from today. We’ll post our favorites and then vote on a winner that week! Two rules: you have to tweet your pic(s) to us (@iloveswmag) and then email the same to howdy at iloveswmag.com with the subject line “V4 Photo Contest.”

A prize, you say? Oh yes, there will be prizes — multiple prizes. We are still ironing out the details, but five winners will get to choose from a bevy of fabulous goods!! These pretties will appeal to brides, newlyweds, and vendors alike, so don’t delay! We can’t wait to see what y’all come up with!

SWPS, V4 Style!

October 24, 2011 by Emily in InTheOffice,Main | 21 comments

Happy Monday, ladies + gentlemen! And it is a happy Monday, indeed, because many-a-SW bride spent the weekend snuggling up to her very own copy of V4!!! That’s right, we shipped a massive number of magazines out from our offices last week, and we are here to share the proof!

Since not all of y’all know the back story, let me explain. Southern Weddings is distributed around the country, and you can find it in many major stores, including Walmart, Target, and Barnes & Noble, as well as tons of grocery stores and pharmacies (Walgreens is actually one of the chains that carries it most heavily!). In addition, we also ship out copies daily from our office. No, we do not have a shipping department. Yes, that means that every order is hand-packaged by one of the SW ladies, including those famous handwritten SW notes. Marissa, Sierra and our intern Melissa handle the bulk of order communication and processing, but everyone chips in during the busiest weeks!

Want a peek into the SWPS (that’s Southern Weddings Post Office, of course!)? Step right in!

The excitement starts when our shipment of magazines arrives. This ALWAYS seems to happen on a rainy day, but this year, it was sunny!

Y’all, that is 8,300 POUNDS OF MAGAZINES! (Well, that one pallet is only 1/4 of 8,300 pounds!) Yes, they are as heavy as they look. We let Ms Preggers take the photos, but recruited her husband to help heave-ho.

Much excitement followed as we each tore open a box to take a look! Then a mini photo session ensued, of course!

Pretty soon it was time to get to work, though. After all, we had approximately 500 orders to get out the door in two days!! With all hands on deck, we soon were surrounded by stacks of Priority Mail envelopes and walls of boxes.

The next step was to take photos with all of our hard work.

We’re pretty good at that step :)

Then it was time to load everything into cars for the big trip to the real post office (yes, if you’re wondering, they love us there). Luckily, Sierra and I both have SUVs, so we were able to transport Thursday’s load in one trip (we had another huge car-ful on Friday!).

Now as I said, the USPS has a love/hate relationship with us, so we try to make it as easy as them on possible. On Thursday, that meant unloading our goodies in the back, which was pretty exciting! I surreptitiously took photos, unsure if that was allowed on government property.

Once everything was unloaded and in the process of having postage added, I left Sierra to oversee and headed back to the office. Two hours later, she triumphantly returned with six of the world’s longest receipts!!

And that, my friends, is the story of the Southern Weddings Post Office. Like what you see? Feel free to place your order today!

P.S. The SWPS in years past:

Southern Girls in the City :: Bridal Market :: Part 6

October 21, 2011 by Marissa in Fashion and Style,Main | 3 comments

Welcome to the last entry in our Bridal Market coverage. Even though our fun must come to an end, we’ve got quite the finale for you!

After hitting the Piers and seeing new and old friends alike, we stopped for a quick pick-me-up at Eleni’s in the MeatPacking District on the way to our meeting at Gabriella New York. When you have a fabulous photographer in cahoots with you, it’s hard not to stop for an impromptu photo shoot! Thanks, Trent!

Visiting the Gabriella New York Bridal Salon was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! Not only was Gabriella a complete doll and her staff sweet as pie, but her salon was filled with the most gorgeous gowns and bridal accessories.

One particular lovely caught my eye as soon as we walked in – the amazing “Addison” from Marchesa. Gabriella was kind enough to let me try it on and let me tell you I literally died! Whitney fell for this stunning Sassi Holford and I think her first time in a wedding dress might have been her best! BIG huge thank you hugs to Gabriella and her team for making this MAJOR fashion moment happen!

We couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our Bridal Market whirlwind then with the Romona Keveza Legends show. Romona herself sat in a large comfy chair and described each dress as smiling models twirled around a gorgeous suite at the St. Regis. Fashion heaven! We were so thrilled to be a part of her last Market show and to have chatted with her after. I especially loved the lace-edged cathedral length veils and that her collection was inspired by real brides everywhere.

All images courtesy of the amazing Trent Bailey.

Whitney and I hope that you enjoyed following along with our adventures in the city that never sleeps! We are so grateful to have been able to take y’all along for the ride! Special thanks to our amazing Editor in Chief Lara for being such an awesome boss and to our fabulous photographer Trent Bailey! Whitney, you we’re a fabulous partner in crime and I can’t wait for next year already!

Which designer is your favorite? Who will you be wearing on your big day?

Southern Girls in the City :: Bridal Market :: Part 5

October 21, 2011 by Whitney in Fashion and Style,Main | 12 comments

Hello, my pretties! Can you believe how jam-packed our schedule was? We fit as many gorgeous gowns and fabulous friends (new and old) into our three days in the city as possible. It’s certainly making my head whirl!

Marissa and I began day three in Judd Waddell’s beautiful showroom. This collection was most definitely a favorite of mine. I was swooning over the rows of tiny buttons up the backs of many of the designs. Each dress was simple, timeless, and utterly perfect for Southern brides. It was wonderful to chat with Judd after the showing. He’s quite the gentleman!

We spent much of Monday morning jumping from booth to booth at the Piers. Marissa and I were overwhelmed by the hundreds of fabulous designers there. While we didn’t have time to stop by every booth (if only!), it was wonderful to see some familiar faces and make new friends.

We ran into the gorgeous and super trendy Lindsie at Haute Bride and I was so tempted to try on all of her fabulous beads and baubles. We also said a quick hello to Coren Moore, whose lovely ad is featured in Southern Weddings V4.

One of the best surprise finds of the day were Veronica Sheaffer’s stunning gowns. Her newest collection is inspired by weathered white-washed fences. You can’t get much more Southern than that!

After many a tweet back and forth, we finally met up with SW favorite Kristy Rice of Momental Designs. What’s that she’s holding? Only a copy of Southern Weddings V4!

While at the Piers, we had the opportunity to squeeze into the Watters show. The Watters collection featured fun veils and beautiful gowns (of course). I fell in love with these printed bridesmaid dresses. Wouldn’t they be perfect for a garden wedding?

Before we left the Piers, we made sure to stop by and chat with the lovely ladies at Ivy + Aster. They are sweet as sugar and cute to boot!

Who took these fabulous photos? Mr. Trent Bailey, of course!

Be sure to drop back in this afternoon for the very last part of our Bridal Market adventure. Believe me, you won’t want to miss it. Want a hint for what’s ahead? Marissa and I may have had a chance to play dress-up. Just wait till you see what we got to try on!
