Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

April 5, 2013 by Southern Weddings in Main | 3 comments

Hello again readers! This is intern Emily 5.0. I have had the most wonderful time working at Southern Weddings this spring — spending time with wonderful people, looking at beautiful weddings, and contributing to the blog. Thank you for all of your support!

I know I am not alone in welcoming what it supposed to be a lovely weekend, especially after the surprising weather yesterday in Chapel Hill! Despite the rain, our birthday joy was not dampened, and we spent the week celebrating five years of Southern Weddings!

Monday, April 1st was our fifth anniversary! We want y’all to join in the fun for a chance to win our birthday giveaways. Go to this post for more info, and no, that’s not an April Fools joke!

Y’all enthusiastically took part in our March Southern Doin’, and sent us your springtime photographs. Now, celebrate the warmer temperatures with our April Challenge!

The ladies in the office sorted through 546 real Southern weddings from the past five years — and narrowed them down to ten personal favorites. It was quite the challenge!

A record amount of counting was done in the office so that we could bring y’all fun facts from the past five years about our readers and the blog! We’re always trying to get to know y’all better, so be sure to fill out our 2013 reader survey, too!

Our favorite editorial shots were compiled among the staff. Wow, were they were beautiful!

We took y’all back in time to catch up with the amazing ladies who have made Southern Weddings what it is today.

A few of the most beautiful and emotion-filled photographs from the past five years were shared.

We presented y’all with more birthday facts and gave y’all behind-the-scenes details on everything from our inner office workings to the print edition craziness.

Happy news!

Emily is just a few short weeks away from her own honeymoon, which has us all thinking about great resources like Wanderable, a honeymoon registry! If you’re planning your honeymoon and already have all the household goods you could need, be sure to check out our post on them here!

Before y’all head out to enjoy the weekend, stop by our Facebook Friday and see the adorable engagement session from Footstone Photography.

We hope y’all have a fabulous weekend!

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

March 1, 2013 by Southern Weddings in Main | 3 comments

Hello everyone and happy Friday! March has officially arrived, and with it the promise of warmer days ahead (it was particularly lovely this Wednesday!). Before I dive into the events of the past week, allow me to introduce myself! My name is Emily L., the fifth Emily who has had the opportunity to work in this office! This spring I have been fortunate enough to be an intern at Southern Weddings. Being a Blue Devil, I have finally supplied Emily with an ally.

On Monday, Emily taught us of the (delightfully) strong scent of the gardenia, and their representation of grace and hospitality.

Jen, our Southern Bride of the Month, is planning a black tie and fun-filled event at the St. Regis in Atlanta.

Yesterday was Emily’s birthday! In honor of her big heart, we asked y’all to complete a random act of kindness.

Nicole finished up our month of love letters by writing to her future bow tie-wearing puppy. Read it here.

We love real weddings!

Savannah + Henry’s magnolia-filled Charleston wedding made our hearts melt, as did the story of their long-distance relationship. See it here.

Our very own Kristin + Kyle had a magnificent wedding right here in Chapel Hill! We are lucky that their love for each other was so beautifully captured. See it here.

Kristin + Travis had a Southern-inspired wedding in Vermont. We especially loved learning about “The Moover.” See it here.

Before you head out, be sure to check out the adorable engagement session from Teale Photography on today’s Facebook Friday!

Have a great weekend!

November 6, 2012 by Southern Weddings in Contests,Main | 60 comments

Hey y’all, it’s Alexia here with our last behind the scenes bow tie giveaway. The release of V5 is just 7 days away, and we can’t contain our excitement here in the SW office! You’ll see why we’ve been countin’ down the days when you get your copy! (Haven’t pre-ordered yet? Get your copy here.) To celebrate all that Southern goodness, we’ve been giving away two bow ties a week to some very excited readers. Congratulations to last week’s winners Natalie and Martha!

For me, there is nothing more Southern than a gentleman in a bow tie. If I had to pick one of these bow ties for the dapper gents in my life, I would go for the Carolina blue seersucker (In honor of the Tar Heels, of course). Don’t miss your opportunity to win one of these Southern bow ties for the man in your life!

To Enter: Leave a comment below naming your favorite bow tie.

Win: Two winners will each receive the bow tie of their choosing.

Good luck, y’all!

8

Martha Michael, November 4, 2012 5:29 pm   reply I grew up recognizing that the only way to dress nice was to dress nice, starting with my grandfather. Besides storytelling and cooking, my grandpa was always a sharply dressed man. He would silently make a statement with his freshly-shined shoes to his perfectly-matching bow tie. Seeing this picture immediately reminded me of him. The second bow tie from the top on the left, the light green seersucker, was just like one he wore every Easter. Seeing it filled me with memories and delight; I would love to be able to give a similar bow tie to my husband, who I believe shares my grandfather's knack for dressing well. Bow ties are the focus of any sharply-dressed man's outfit; there's never too many to have! Love!
