Where you call home: I’ve called Raleigh home for many years and started raising my family here, but it always feels good to cross the Davidson County line where I grew up!
Things you’d write home to your Momma about: I was very excited to share with Momma that we were nominated for an ISES Esprit award last year. She was so proud of Your Special Day Weddings and Special Events. Also, I always love letting her know when we book a new client!
Location/coverage: We love having the opportunity to travel and are available for destination weddings, but a large portion of our clients are in the Triangle and surrounding counties.
How I got into weddings: When my brother got married 12 years ago, he asked me to direct his wedding. I had no idea how to direct a wedding at the time, so I consulted my mother’s old edition of Emily Post’s “Wedding Etiquette!” Afterward, a friend of mine suggested I talk to her aunt, who had started her own wedding planning business. I ended up working with her aunt full time. Six years and a lot of experience later, I started Your Special Day Weddings and Special Events.
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? The Southern hospitality! I work with so many vendors who really do understand the meaning of hospitality. They are warm and welcoming, they listen to their clients and they truly care about them and go above and beyond for them.
Favorite part of a wedding day? My favorite moment is when I have a minute to step back and watch my clients enjoy everything. I love to see all our hard work come together and watch my clients and their families relish the moments rather than worry about any of the details.
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? Relax and focus on each other! Let your professionals handle the details, so you can focus on what’s really important, which is the commitment you’re making in marriage. The day will go by so fast, so you have to be free from thinking about the small stuff.
Dream travel destination? Italy. I’m going there before I die!
Favorite Southern city? Atlanta. Can you say GWTW??
Early bird or night owl? Definitely a night owl!
Pie bar or red velvet cake? Pie bar. My favorites are pecan and lemon meringue!
Pottery Barn or Anthropologie? Pottery Barn.
Succulents or peonies? Peonies, hands-down. I’m looking forward to the peonies coming to my garden soon, transplanted from my great-uncle’s yard!
